Catnip plants (Nepeta cataria) are part of the mint family. One of catnip’s volatile oils, known as nepetalactone, is active mood-modifying compound. When cats smell it, they may enter into a state of of euphoria or calm which lasts for about 5 to 15 minutes. Catnip is considered to be non-addictive and completely harmless to cats if ingested. Nonetheless, we recommend limiting the amounts to avoid digestive issues.
